Older construction
A significant share of Easton's housing stock predates modern wiring and plumbing standards. College Hill's Residential Historic District holds some of the largest homes in the city, most built between 1830 and 1940, and downtown Easton has its own historic district as well. Knob and tube electrical, galvanized plumbing, lath and plaster walls and settling foundations are common in homes of this age. These are not obstacles. They are part of what makes Easton's older homes worth renovating carefully. We are EPA Lead Safe certified, which is required for any home built before 1978. We plan for the realities of older construction rather than being surprised by them mid-project.
Homes within College Hill's historic district may carry additional review requirements for exterior changes. For interior millwork projects this rarely affects the work, but if your project is part of a larger renovation that touches windows, exterior openings or additions, we factor that review process into the timeline from the start.
